Description
Half track 57mm gun motor carriage T-48 was an American self-propelled anti-tank gun produced during World War II. It consisted of a 57 mm M1 anti-tank gun (the U.S. licensed version of the British Ordnance QF 6-pounder) mounted on the chassis of an M3 Half-Track. Initially intended for British forces in the Western Desert, the T48 arrived too late to be useful as heavier tank destroyers (like the M10) took over. 650 units were shipped to the Soviet Union via the Soviet Aid Program, where they were designated SU-57.It saw significant combat during Operation Bagration.
