Description
Israel Chevrolet 7117 during the 1947–1948 Civil War in Mandatory Palestine and the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Built by Jewish underground forces (primarily the Haganah) to breach blockades, these vehicles became universally known as "Sandwich" armored. Following World War II, the US military sold off thousands of surplus vehicles as civilian hardware. In 1947, operatives from the Haganah covertly bought standard Chevrolet G-506 series cargo trucks from US army warehouses. The US authorities sold them under the impression they were strictly for regular agricultural or commercial use.
