Description
British Staff Car Forlite Saloon 8HP - introduced in 1939 (Austin 8 two door four light saloon), powered by a 900cc sidevalve engine from the previous Big Seven model. Prior to the war, buyers could opt for either a 2 or 4 door saloon. During the war, many Austin 8s (both saloons and tourers) were built for the Army. Production of 8HP continued after the war, although the 2dr saloon was no longer available. Production finally ended in 1947 (totally about 20 000 made). During the war (at least until 1942), about 9,000 of the wartime 8HP produced for the military and government.
